Then she began to sew and, yes the rest is history... and
very interesting history. After three years of formal sewing training, the sixteen year
old's first paying job was as a clothing saleswomen in an Athens department store. At home
she was the family's clothing maker; a family which included aunts, uncles and cousins and
her mother, who, Voula says, could not even sew on a button.
At age 22 Voula set out alone for the new world arriving in
Canada and landing a job in men's clothing alterations in a Montreal department store. On
a visit to Washington, D.C. she met Bill, her husband-to-be, whom she married in the
presence of her family in Greece. They returned to live in the D.C. area and have a family
of two sons and two daughters. Voula and Bill are now enjoying being grandparents, too.
When the kids were old enough, Voula applied her sewing
skills to her first part time alterations job in a drycleaners and has been with Prestige
since 1984.
All who know Voula enjoy her superb alteration and repair
talents and garment construction knowledge, and her sparkling personality and empathy. Few
things in life are more personal than our favorite clothing and this personable women
provides TLC with each fitting moment and stitch in time she provides.
